SAFETY ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY
  • Coordinates a variety of safety functions, including safety committees, safety inspections and post-accident investigations
  • Establishes safety policies and procedures
  • Functions as team leader for emergency response
  • Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) regulations updates
  • Provides hazardous material shipping guidance and customer support
  • Provides consultation and training in all safety areas

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Business or in a related field

EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in the safety field including experience with OSHA and DOT regulations, emergency response, and hazardous materials leaks or spills

LICENSE: Valid driver's license and valid passport. Professional Certification in Safety, Hazardous Materials, or Emergency Response

TRAVEL: 20% travel to domestic locations and 10% to other Tropical locations located through the Bahamas and the Caribbean

Specialist, Workplace Safety – Royal Caribbean International Hotel Operations

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the ongoing workplace safety program for Royal Caribbean International Hotel Operations.  This individual will be responsible for the implementation of ship-specific, brand-specific and fleetwide directives into our Workplace Safety Management System, in close collaboration with the appropriate division owners within the operation and under the direction of the Workplace Safety Steering Committee.  To accomplish this task, the individual must have a comprehensive knowledge of shipboard operations and shoreside support functions, also a thorough understanding and ability to improve on the various aspects of our Workplace Safety Management System and their practical application on a daily basis, for both ship and shore.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Create and establish procedures for the Royal Caribbean International Workplace Safety Program.

  2. Support ships management in developing improved workplace safety processes.

  3. Ensure open and meaningful communication between ships management and the workplace safety committees, making sure that the proper protocols, reports and formats are used.

  4. Prepare recommendations for senior management on solutions to workplace safety.

  5. Design and implement new workplace safety programs, policies and processes in conjunction with ship and shore operations management.

  6. Prepare regular summary report to senior management on Workplace Safety in the fleet with analysis and recommendations for correction.

  7. Conduct audits as necessary.

  8. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Specific Knowledge

  1. Minimum two (2) years onboard cruise ship experience and/or shoreside experience supporting the ships.

  2. Background in workplace safety and occupational safety.

  3. Sound knowledge/understanding of the company’s workplace safety processes.

  4. Experience in consolidating large amounts of data from diverse sources and summarizing in report format for senior management.

  5. Strong administrative, organizational, follow up and writing skills are necessary.

  6. Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on Business Management or equivalent is preferred.

  7. Solid computer skills, including working knowledge of AMOS, ENCORE, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Windows, Internet Explorer, PowerPoint, MS Project.

  8. Ability to interact with all levels of management within the company including senior management.

  9. Must be able to analyze complex situations and develop recommendations for             management review.

General Knowledge:
Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.  Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manual.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Position:       Safety Coordinator

 

Job Description: South Florida manufacturer seeks experienced Safety Coordinator to proactively manage the Health, Safety and Environmental programs of two operating entities located in Dade and Palm Beach Counties. Position provides leadership in fostering a working environment that promotes safety, productivity and adherence to standard operating procedures.

The ideal candidate will assist with the development of specific programs to reduce losses and protect associates. Candidate will conduct audits, inspections and assessments to ensure regulatory compliance. Candidate will administer training for general safety and security, powered industrial trucks, DOT regulations, driver safety - training, loss prevention and related operational skills.

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four year college or university; Associates degree from a two year college, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Candidate must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Also must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a requirement.
