Automated External Defibrillators

The Power to Save a Life.

250,000 Deaths from sudden cardiac arrest!

The American Heart Association reports 250,000 annual deaths caused by sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA kills more people than handguns, fires, traffic accidents, HIV and breast cancer combined.

SCA can strike anyone, anytime, anywhere. It happens 600 times per day - 1 victim every 2 to 3 minutes. 75% of events happen outside of a hospital, 20% of victims have no prior symptoms and 95% will dies without very early treatment.

Early bystander response with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can and does save lives. AEDs are easy to use, portable, and pose no risk to the rescuer. AHA predicts 40,000 SCA deaths per year could be prevented through AED use.

Is it right for your workplace?

Consider the risk factors in your work environment. OSHA reports 815 of the 6,339(13%) workplace facilities reported in 1999-2000 were caused by SCA. Jobs with shift work, high stress, exposure to certain chemicals, electrical hazards, or exposure to temperature extremes increase the risk of heart disease and SCA. Although SCA can strike at any age, an older workforce or customer base will contain more individuals with underlying heart disease and medical problems which can lead to SCA.
